It will be an uncomfotable experience for president George W Bush to open this book and discover that a diviner in sixteenth - century France has forseen the attempted assassination of a major world leader as occuring sometime during his tenure.
If Mr Bush is a wise man(and we must assume that he is),he will read quatrain IO/26-2006-2008 very carefully indeed, and then take urgent steps to make sure the prophecy doesn't come true in relation to him.But President Bush, like all US presidents
throughout history,is very used to being threatened. He is protected by the most practised to being threatened. He is protected by the most practised security service in the world.Founded in 1865 to combat currency counterfeiting and forgery, the secret service has safeguarded every US president since 1901,the year in which william McKinley became the third president to assassinated within a period of third-six years. On hearing the news of his death,it was immediately decided by the powers-that-be that something was, indeed,'rotten in the state of Denmark',and that urgent action needed to be taken to staunch the political haemorrhaging.
The Secret Service has lost only one further president in the century following its inception, but he was if one may permit oneself the word,a lulu.I am speaking of John F kennedy, whose assassination on the 22nd November 1963 ushered in a whole new era of political paranoia. There have been a number of close calls since then, which the attempt one Ronald Reagan's life being only the most promonent, but,on the whole, the Secret Service has been remarkably effective in protecting US Heads of State and their families from harm-with the notable exception of President Kennedy's brother,Robert, who was shot dead in Los Angeles,in 1968.
what is new about the World Leader/michel de Nostredame scenario,is that vulnerable world leaders with highly placed brothers will discover,on reading quattrain number 10/26,not only that an assassination attempts may be made on their lives, but also what will happen after the assassination-if ,of course,it is successful. This information they will no doubt find hard to swallow. But we are not asking them to take it simply on trust.Just look at the track record.Nostradamus correctly predicted the death, during a friendly joust,of King Henry's opponent entering the King's helmet through the visor and piercing his eye.Nostradamus warned Henry's Queen,Catherin de Medici,in person,of the danger, but she was unable to dissuade her husband from agreeing to a rematch(following a hung decision after their first bout)with the reluctant Montgomery,Captain of the Scottish Guard. The King died an agonising death, ten days latter,on the 10th July 1559.The crestfallen Montgomery, pardoned by the king, succumbled to the widowed Queen's disfavour a full fifteen years after her husband's death-and that, too, was predicted by Nostradamus,in quatrain 3/30,right down to the six armed men who kidnapped him, naked, from his bedroom, and hurried him to the Conciergerie prison, where he died.
Benito Mussolini, too would have been well-advised to lend an ear to quatrain 2/24,in which not only is his death predicted, but also the manner of it described-being 'hung inside a cage of iron',which turned out to be the charred frame of a fire-bombared petrol station at Guilino di Mezzegra, near Lake Cobo,in Italy.Napoleon, the Duc de Berry,Charles I,Adolf Hitler,Mary,Queen of Scots, and even John F Kennedy could all have benefited from advance warning of their death, but,as Augustine Birrell so elegantly puts it,in his Obiter Dicta; 'History is a pageant and not a philosophy'.Even if we have knowledge of the future,it is not necessarily either desirable,or even possible,to act on that information.
Now back to the complete prophecies for the future.I have begun the commentaries marginally in the past, with the Twin Tower Disaster of the 11th september 2001,not only because it coincided almost exactly with the turn of our century, but also because Nostradamus's predictions about the event are so detailed, and so astonishing, that they will give even further credence to this prognostications for our future, and that of our planet.Interpreting Nostradamus is very much like working on a detective story.Following his filigrees of meaning through to final ,if tentative, connclusion ,is an immensely satisfying work of deduction.I have therfore taken as my starting point the premise that the most esoteric of Nostradamus's quatrains -in other words those without any obvious reference to the times in which he lived,or to the four and a half centuries immediately succeeding his death-must,by default, refer to the future.I have therfore retranslated these, and approached them entirely afresh, without refering back to past commentaries.
